Sue Goes To Hollywood 6

Los Angeles to Portland

A piece of advice - if you are travelling within the US, take just 2 pieces of luggage not greater than 9" by 14". You can check in at the gate and carry these on, whereas those with larger or more pieces of luggage face queues checking their baggage in, and collecting it at the other end. I was OK. The terminal was being refurbished, so all the floor coverings were up, and there were other signs of building work. I caught flight UA2610, a Boeing 737-500 to Portland, Oregon, departing 3:57pm. I had a window seat on the left-hand side, so the view was mostly of the sea. We were served a packet of safari mix and a free cup of soft drink.

The views of Portland and a snow-topped mountain and the river were fantastic, though unfortunately it was getting too dark to photograph. As we came in it was getting dark, and it seemed that we were going to land on the river itself. We landed at 6:20pm. Dayhawk Kim was easy to spot from the photo in the library, and he drove me back to where he and John Linendoll live, where I had a great welcome from John and the dogs, Alf and Luke. That evening Day fixed us up with a great spaghetti bolognese, and I got to see my first racoon! I didn't get a photograph, unfortunately.

Needless to say we did spend some time at the computers too. :-) It was here that I realised that I had left my password at home, so could not sign on as myself while away. :-(

The news was dominated, as it was throughout my holiday, by Kosovo. :-(

In episode 7 - taking a breather. Will I catch the plane back?
