WAP
(Knowledge of basic HTML is assumed).
WAP stands for Wireless Application Protocol. It is a set of specifications for developing web-like applications that run over wireless networks. It is used to write pages for mobile phones and other small devices such as PDAs. WAP enabled pages are written in wml, and served by wml enabled servers. WML is similar to HTML, but needs to be more strictly applied, and has to allow for the much smaller screens and memory capacity of the devices that use it. WML is an XML language, but there is as yet no standard for it. It is therefore best to keep your pages simple for now. WAP protocols are agreed by a consortium called the WAP Forum, which operates in a similar way to the W3C group.
In WAP: WML is the equivalent of HTML. Because WAP devices are so varied, WML concentrates on the content to be displayed. The developer cannot control the form.
