Sulphur Dioxide

Sulphur dioxide (SO2 or SOx) (or sulfur dioxide) emissions cause acid rain (sulphurous/sulfurous acid (H2SO3)) when they react with water. They can irritate the lungs. SO2 can arise from volcanoes, from burning poor quality coal and petroleum, and from industry.
