Newts
I'm not sure whether the newts in my garden are great crested newts or smooth newts. There are at least 17 ponds in Milton Keynes having great crested newts. Mine have orange on their bellies, but I've not seen an obvious crest. Apart from gently removing one whenever it was spending the day in my plastic compost bin when I wanted to add more material (several times), I have taken care not to disturb them, and no doubt they enjoy the pond and damp places I have created. I estimated one to be a little over 11cm long, which is a touch long for smooth newt, but short for great crested.
