Biofuels

People have been burning wood and peat for heat and light for hundreds of thousands of years. In recent millenia, wood and charcoal have been used for potmaking and the extraction and working of metals.

I guess you could call the tallow used for candles and the animal muscles used for transport and other tasks could also be called biofuels.

Biomass such as wood is renewable, but we need to take care to renew it and not let demand outstrip supply.

Modern examples of biofuels include the biogas digestion of agricultural wastes, woodchips derived from short rotation coppices used as fuel for combined cycle gas turbines.
